Laurie formed a bond with Shipsterns 10 years ago as a 19 year old paddling into what is still regarded as the biggest wave ever ridden without the assistance of a jet ski.
Laurie: “It’s a lot harder now to get a good wave. When I got that bomb it was just me and Andy (Irons) in the line-up. Now there would be 15 – 20 surfers shoulder to shoulder. That’s the only thing that has changed, but I still love the place.”
