The Dumpster Diver 2 is a modern update to the popular original model. This high-performance board, designed by Dane Reynolds, builds on the qualities that made the original a cult classic and expands upon them to create a board that can rip in a wider range of conditions.
The board’s outline remains largely unchanged from the OG, with slight alterations to its width. It features a standard shortboard shape with a pulled-in nose, plenty of curve, and a squash tail. Dane added slight “hips” to the tail section of the DD2, which helps to loosen things up a bit.
The wide point of the board is located at the center, which enhances paddling, maintaining speed, and maneuverability off the tail. The Dumpster Diver 2 has the perfect rocker profile for small wave ripping. It is relaxed enough to make paddling easy and maintain speed, while still allowing for tighter, more aggressive turns than other small wave shapes.
The board maintains the original’s single concave design, but with a more subtle feel. This results in efficient water flow, generating lift and speed for smooth planing and fast takeoffs. The DD2 is a great all-around shortboard for South Africa, being both stubby and rippable.
